The rules of business promotion have changed. The old rules let you get away with an “online brochure” and a Yellow Pages ad. That’s no longer good enough. The new rules require an actively updated web presence with focused content to draw local search traffic. Keep your Yellow Pages ad, for now. Just be aware that fewer and fewer people use it to find your business here in North America.
More than 70% of buyers use Google as their primary local business search/lookup tool (more than any other tool), and that percentage is growing. Use of the Yellow Pages and newspaper ads (second and third most-used tools, respectively) continue to drop. Meanwhile, Google’s local search feature allows Santa Fe and Albuquerque businesses to rank above big, national firms in search results. Change is good.
