Get Blogging, All the Cool Kids are Doing It.

WordPress, Blogger, Movable Type, Oh my! There are so many blogging platforms out there it’s hard to know where to start. My completely unbiased review of the top three will hopefully help you out on your quest to be the next Perez.

Blogs range from parks reviews to exploiting the clothing challenged people of Wal-Mart and tend to stem from a passion that people decide to share. I am not sure how ones passion becomes voyeuristically stalking peoples terrible clothing choices but who am I to judge. Needless to say the idea of the blog born out of an interest is key to making your blog great. So if you are into Ponies, Unicorns or want to run a commentary on the latest Prada bags read on and I can give a brief overview of the top 3 blogging platforms, Blogger, Wordpress and Movable Type.

Wordpress – All that and a bag of chips.

A very smart person once said “ Keep it simple stupid” and I think that’s theme the makers of WordPress have laid their foundation on. If you are comfortable using webmail you can be an expert WordPress publisher in no time at all.

Aside from ease of use Wordpress also has the largest community of developers and theme designers with tons free (yes I said free) themes and plugins. You can find small applications with one click installations that immediately allow your site do everything from accept Paypal payments to showcasing beautiful photo galleries with light box effects all without any knowledge of programming.

I can go on and on but my coffee is getting cold so here are the quick benefits:

  1. You host it on your own server so there is no forced advertising and you can completely customize it.
  2. Easy to add new pages and upload images.
  3. Tons of Free and Premium Themes
  4. Did I mention how easy it is to use?

Blogger

Blogger is the second most popular blogging software out there. There are 2 main reasons for its popularity. First is been around longer then just about any other blogging platform, and 2 it’s easy to use. The downfall to Blogger is a small display bar at the top of the page with the Blogger logo and links to other blogs plus it’s a bit clunky and is sneered at by the power bloggers out there. With that said it is reliable and easy to use for the average Joe who just wants an outlet to express the writer within.

Here are my top 3 benefits.

  1. It’s Free!
  2. You don’t need to know how to install any software
  3. Get stumbled upon traffic from other blogs.

Movable Type:

Ok after getting this far into the article I realize that I could never be unbiased and really think I should just be blunt, so her it is. Movable Type kinda sucks. I know I used it, I had a few blogs running on it but in the end I moved back to my BFF WordPress. Why do you ask? Because hands down it is the best, the most robust the easiest to use. Don’t get caught up on the other options out there. Go for the best and save your self the time of trying out other systems only to come back to word press.

I have no idea if this was useful, I was hoping I could be less biased but I feel like a cheater trying to sell anything but the best. If you want to take the leap and become the next top blogger take a look at WordPress.org to learn more.

As always I my offer a WorPress setup package to help you get up and running with out having to figure it out yourself. To learn more click here.
